Rakhine workers at Maungdaw Diamond petrol station in Maungdaw East Quarter, Rakhine State beat up a Rohingya driver who came to buy petrol for the car carrying a dead body and looted 100,000 kyat from the family of the corpse.
A 12-year-old female TB patient Hussein Tara from Du Dan (Balu Khali) Village, Zin Paing Nya Village Tract, north of Maungdaw had been having treatment at Maungdaw District People’s Hospital and unfortunately died at dawn on 21 December, 2021.
At 6:30 in the morning, Mir Azam, 19, hailing from Thae Chaung, Kyauk Hlegha Village Track was taking the corpse from the hospital to Du Dan village by Probox, a white glass car, and he stopped for petrol on the side of Mahabandula Road in front of Diamond Petrol Station.
Seeing dead body in the car and knowing nothing about it, the Rakhine people working at the petrol station started beating the driver randomly. Due to non-stop beating, the driver ran away to save his life without taking the car, a town-dweller said.
In the morning, Rohingya passers-by saw the dead body in the car. And they compromise the case talking to U Than Maung, the owner of the petrol station. Β The car and corpse were returned to the driver after getting 100,000 Kyats, the town-dweller continued.
A local said, βWhat wrong did the driver do to beat him? Β Was that his wrong going to the station to help the owner buying petrol? Rakine again showed the wildest and rudest behavior towards the Muslims.
“Instead of compensating driver for his medical treatment, the owner took money from him and the family of corpse.”
The owner of Diamond Petrol Station is the son-in-law of former Maungdaw chairman Kyaw Aye and is also a WY drug dealer.
Rakhine villagers, meanwhile, are reportedly persecuting the Rohingya in various ways with the support of Arakan Army AA and the Burmese authorities.
