The village administrator of Kyaik Ro Pyin (Kia Rain Fara) village in northern Maungdaw, Rakhine state has reportedly been arrested on December 3 and is being tortured by Sa.Ra.Pa, Military Security Force.
Maung Myint Naing, the administrator of Kyaik Ro Pyin village, attended a regular monthly meeting of the Maungdaw General Administration Department on December 2 and spent the night in the town without returning home.
On his way home the next day, December 3, he was summoned by Sergeant Kyi Han from the Sa.Ra.Pa office and arrested soon after his arrival, according to a relative.
“Maung Myint Naing was arrested on December 3, but his family is still not allowed to see him and is worried about his health,” the relative said. “Allowing not to take his usual medication will be the end of his life as he has diabetes and high blood pressure”
He continued that Sa.Ra.Pa arrested Maung Myint Naing on suspicion of having links with Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA).
A local human right activist said, “He has been the administrator since 2016. As an administrator, he has conducted meeting with villagers. Can it be accused of meeting the ARSA members? It is unjust to make such a false arrest. He respects the existing laws.
“So, I urge the authorities to release him immediately as he has done nothing wrong.”
Regarding the case, On December 7, at 10:30 am, more than 40 policemen from Sector- 5, Border Guard Police Station based in Nga Khu Ya surrounded the village where administrator Maung Myint Naing lives in. The villagers were also questioned about the incident for which the administrator has been arrested.
But most of the villagers have been fleeing for fear of being persecuted by the authorities, a local aid.
