In a tragic incident on August 6, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) destroyed the homes of Rohingya residents in Minglalar Rohingya Village, located in northern Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, Myanmar.
According to reports, a group of approximately 60 AA militants entered Minglalar Rohingya Village and deliberately destroyed five houses belonging to Rohingya families. The affected homeowners include former chairman U Rahamat Ullah, Korim Ullah (son of Kobir Ahmed), former chairman U Abbas, and Adu Rahman (son of Mohammad Younus).
A resident of the village reported that the AA militants forcibly took 20 villagers with them and coerced them into participating in the destruction of the homes. “The AA militants threatened the villagers, saying that if they did not cooperate, they would be shot dead. Out of fear, the villagers had no choice but to assist in the destruction of their own homes,” the resident explained.
The homes were completely demolished and are now uninhabitable. The affected families have been forced to flee and are currently in hiding, fearing further violence from the AA. They have lost not only their homes but also their sense of security, as they continue to live in constant fear of persecution.
Minglalar Rohingya Village remains under the control of the Arakan Army. The Rohingya residents of this village face ongoing extortion, abduction, looting of their poultry, and baseless accusations. The situation has left the villagers living in a state of terror, with no end in sight to the ongoing persecution.
