Mrauk U: The ongoing fight between the Arakan Army (AA) and Burmese military have trapped the remaining Rohingya in Mrauk U Township due to heavy gunfire and helicopter attacks today (19th March 2019), reports a Rohingya from the scene.
Since early morning at 7 AM heavy gunfire started between both the armies and left the Rohingya villagers in extreme fear.
βWe saw five helicopters attacking from the sky and we are really worried for our lives,β says a terrified Rohingya while reporting to us.
Due to heavy firing and attacks from helicopter Moghs (Rakhine) villagers started to evacuate their villages and they were seen to be marching with heavy and sharp objects like swords, knives and sticks.
The heavy gunfire in the region and behavior of the nearby Mogh villagers have left the remaining Rohingya extremely terrified and till the latest report received all the villagers were inside their homes in fear and worry.
Earlier on Saturday night three Rohingya were critically injured in their gunfire in Kyauktaw Township and the bullets hit and killed animals as well.
Mrauk U, the ancient capital of Arakan holds the history of Rohingya existence in Arakan. But since 2012 state-sponsored violence few Rohingya villages exist till today after scattering majority of the Rohingya population to the internally displaced peoples camp (IDP) in Akyab (Sitwe) and in other parts of Arakan
