A Rohingya man was killed and three others injured by lightning at a football field in Setia Alam, yesterday (10th March 2019).
Klang Utara police chief Nurulhuda Mohd Salleh said it occurred at 5.05pm at the Setia Badminton Academy’s football field.
The deceased has been identified as Rohimullah, 19.
The three injured men are Abdul Rahman Abul Hussin, Kamaluddin Abu Tahir, and Hussein Ahmad Asod Ali, all of whom are Rohingya.
Abdul Rahman is in coma at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.
The victims were there to watch a football match between Rohingya Klang FC (RKFC) and Super Nova FC.
Referee Zainizam Zambri, who organised the match, said the victim who was killed in the incident was believed to be using his handphone when the lightning struck.
He said he decided to stop the game half-an-hour before the lightning due to the bad weather.
“We also told supporters to leave the field and find shelter as we saw lightning coming. When the lightning struck, there was a loud noise and the light was so bright.
“The victim was still on the field with his friends and I saw then being thrown off their feet,” he said when met by reporters at the scene.
Zainizam said he and a few others rushed to help but found one of them already dead.
