The Arakan Army (AA) has ordered villagers in Buthidaung Township, Arakan State, Myanmar, to evacuate their homes immediately as of March 15, 2024.
According to a source, “The public has been instructed by the Arakan Army (AA) to vacate the villages by March 20th in Buthidaung Township.”
The source further added, “The Arakan Army (AA) has mandated that villagers evacuate immediately to avoid potential raids, warning of potential torture should they fail to comply.”
“Afraid of the ongoing conflict between the Arakan Army (AA) and the Myanmar military, residents of Buthidaung Township find themselves with nowhere to seek refuge. Both the Arakan Army (AA) and the Myanmar military have been targeting Rohingya villagers in Arakan State,” said a resident.
The residents of Buthidaung Township live in fear as they confront the dilemma of leaving their homes amidst the ongoing clashes between the Arakan Army (AA) and the Myanmar military, with Rohingya villagers facing particular risk of persecution from both sides.
