Approximately 100 Rohingya youths, residents of Ward No. 05, Buthidaung downtown, Arakan State, Myanmar, were apprehended by the Myanmar military on May 10, 2024.
A source stated, ‘The Myanmar military apprehended about 100 Rohingya youths from Ward No. 05, Buthidaung downtown, on the evening of Friday, May 10. The Myanmar military also enumerated the names of Rohingya youths per household in Ward No. 05 in Buthidaung downtown.’
The Myanmar military arrived with trucks in the evening on May 10 and apprehended about 100 Rohingya youths. It is believed that these youths will be utilized as human shields in the conflict between the AA and the Myanmar military. The Myanmar military forcibly enumerated the names of Rohingya youths per household in Ward No. 05 to be conscripted.
Similarly, hundreds of Rohingya youths from Basic Education High School No. 01 in Buthidaung Township were apprehended by the Myanmar military on May 5. They have been taken to military battalions and are being trained in the military and will be utilized as human shields.
All of those who were arbitrarily apprehended from Basic Education High School No. 01 in Buthidaung by the Myanmar military are refugees who sought refuge there from different villages due to the intensified fighting between the Myanmar military and the AA in their villages. Subsequently, their villages were completely burnt down to ashes during the clash between the AA and the Myanmar military.
