In Arakan State’s Maungdaw City, it was initially reported that two Rohingyas, including a 14-year-old child, were killed and at least four Rohingyas were severely injured when a large weapon exploded in the Myoma Kayin Dan neighborhood on June 23, at around 9:00 PM.
The Arakan Army (AA) and the Myanmar military are exchanging heavy weapons fire, and people in the area said that both sides may have been involved in the explosion in Myoma Kayin Dan last night, though AEN has not been able to independently confirm this.
It is reported that the AA is heavily attacking the military council base camp near Maungdaw, causing many local residents to flee their homes.
Local residents said that the Myanmar military remains in position in Maungdaw town while the AA has blocked off the area around the town. Sources indicated that the sounds of gunfire and explosions can be heard outside Maungdaw.
