A prominent Rohingya refugee leader, who went to USA to meet president Donald Trump to ask him for the help of repatriation to motherland Arakan, was abruptly shot dead by unknown gunmen in Bangladesh refugee camp today, our correspondent reports.
Today, the prominent leader, Mohibullah, who was the chairman of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH) until his death, was doing official work for his own people, Rohingya refugees, in his office situated in the world largest refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bang- ladesh.
At 8:30 pm (Dhaka time), the gunmen came into his office furtively and unexpectedly and shot him down firing 3 times, mostly in his chest and then they ran away immediately, said one of the eyewitnesses in the condition of anonymity.
Hearing the violent firing sounds, the refugees living nearby the office of ARSPH rushed into the office and saw the leader on the ground with bullet injuries. Then, he was taken to BRAC hospital for treatment but the hospital referred him to MSF hospital where he breathed his last at around 10 pm today, the eyewitness added.
According to the refugees, some have been abducted, some have been thrashed and some killed from the camp but Bangladesh authorities have taken no effective and prompt action against the killers yet.
