The grand masjid of Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, Myanmar, has been reopened by the Myanmar military since the afternoon of Tuesday, May 14th, 2024.
The grand masjid was locked by the Myanmar military on June 6th, 2012, during the conflict between Rakhine Communities and Rohingya Communities, and it wasn’t permitted to reopen by the Myanmar military, despite frequent requests by Rohingya Muslims.
“The grand masjid of Maungdaw Township has been reopened by the Myanmar military after 12 years of being locked, and Rohingya Muslims can now worship there,” said a resident of Maungdaw.
