It has been reported that the Myanmar military is coercing Rohingya men to join the military in IDP camps in Akyab Township since May 25, 2024.The Myanmar military is using a lottery system to conscript Rohingya men in IDP camps in Sittwe Township, Arakan State, Myanmar, since May 25, 2024.The administrator of the IDP camp in Tha Kye Pyin held a meeting with the internally displaced Rohingyas (IDPs) and used a lottery system to forcibly conscript Rohingya men on May 19 and May 25, 2024.
A resident reported, “The meeting was conducted in the compound of a factory in Tha Kye Pyin IDP camp, and there were police and military personnel present. Fifteen Rohingya men from each IDP camp were forcibly taken to the meeting and subjected to a lottery, with those selected being taken for militia training.”The Myanmar military forcibly conscripted many Rohingya men from Rohingya IDP camps and villages in January, February, and May.
The Myanmar military is once again coercing Rohingya men to join them from IDP camps and villages. The Rohingya men who are forcibly conscripted are taken for 7 to 15 days of militia training and then sent to the front lines against the AA in Buthidaung and Rathedaung Townships.
