Two Rohingya individuals who fled from Shwe Zar village in Maungdaw Township, Myanmar, have been apprehended by the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) in the Teknaf area. The two detainees, identified as Mohammad Noor and Hafizur Rahman, are residents of Ah Nauk Rwa hamlet in Shwe Zar village.

According to sources, Mohammad Noor and Hafizur Rahman fled Myanmar with their families over a month ago, seeking refuge in Islami Baad, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, due to the ongoing genocide targeting the Rohingya community by the Arakan Army (AA). The source recounted that the two families had been living in a rented house in Islami Baad.

On the evening of September 16th, BGB, accompanied by some local residents of Teknaf, raided the rented house and apprehended both Mohammad Noor and Hafizur Rahman along with their family members. A source detailed that all their belongings, including gold and money, were confiscated during the raid.

A family member reported that “about 300 tolas of gold were seized by the BGB, and Mohammad Noor and Hafizur Rahman were subsequently imprisoned in Cox’s Bazar.”

The family member further added that, after inspection, their family members were also apprehended, had their belongings confiscated, and were forcibly pushed back to Maungdaw Township. The fate of these family members remains unknown. “We have no information on whether they are alive or dead after being sent back by the BGB,” said a relative from the refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.

Despite the interim government of Bangladesh’s official stance against pushing Rohingya refugees back, stating that such actions would be akin to sending them to their deaths, the BGB continues to return Rohingya who seek safety in Bangladesh.
