In Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township, a resident informed the Myanmar military troops that they had surrounded the Kanyintan neighborhood and arrested numerous Rohingya youths to use them as human shields in the ongoing conflict.
Itβs reported that, on March 19th, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Myanmar military forces surrounded the Kanyin Tan neighborhood in Maungdaw Township and arrested Rohingya youths aged between 18 and 35, intending to conscript them into the military forcibly.
Reportedly, upon the arrival of the Myanmar military forces to make arrests, some individuals attempted to flee but were captured. They were then taken to the Basic Education High School in Kayangan Ward according to the local residents’ report.
Simultaneously, Myanmar military members have also surrounded Maungni Ward in Maungdaw Township and arrested Rohingya youths. As per eyewitnesses, upon the military’s arrival, some managed to evade capture, but those arrested were taken to the school. All detainees are Rohingya youths aged between 18 and 35. Currently, Maungni Ward remains under siege,” stated a resident of Maungdaw.
Moreover, on March 14th, it was reported that approximately 100 Rohingya youths from Akyab refugee camps in Arakan State were forcibly conscripted into the military to serve as human shields.
