The International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, known for issuing arrest warrants against figures like Russian President Vladimir Putin, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, has arrived in Bangladesh to continue investigations into the Rohingya genocide.

According to The Business Standard, a 15-member ICC team led by Karim Khan, in coordination with the Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) of Cox’s Bazar, reached Kutupalong Refugee Camp No. 1 in Ukhiya Upazila this morning.

The team engaged with Rohingya refugees, discussing the atrocities committed against them during the Myanmar military’s 2017 crackdown in Arakan State. They also visited other camps to further their inquiry into the alleged crimes against humanity.

Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan arrived in Dhaka on November 26 before traveling to Cox’s Bazar. Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Tawfiq Hassan confirmed that the ICC team will remain in the country until November 28, conducting investigations and meeting with Dr. Yunus, Chief Adviser to the Bangladeshi Interim Government, to discuss the Rohingya issue.

This marks Karim Khan’s second visit to Bangladesh, with his previous trip occurring in July 2023. The ongoing investigation reflects the international community’s efforts to hold perpetrators of the Rohingya genocide accountable.
