The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, met with Bangladesh’s Adviser for Foreign Affairs, Md. Touhid Hossain, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today to discuss the ongoing Rohingya crisis and the need for a sustainable resolution.
During the meeting, Adviser Hossain expressed gratitude for UNHCR’s continued support for the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh but emphasized the urgent need for a long-term solution. He warned that without a durable resolution, the crisis could further destabilize regional and global peace and security.
Grandi reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the Rohingya issue and voiced optimism about the international community’s role in intensifying efforts for a solution. He also expressed support for the proposed UN Conference, initiated by Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, aimed at mobilizing global action for the Rohingya people.
The UNHCR High Commissioner is scheduled to visit the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar tomorrow to assess conditions and discuss ongoing humanitarian efforts.
