Bangladesh, December 25, 2024 — Thousands of Rohingyas from all walks of life gathered today at Kutupalong Refugee Camp No. 1, voicing a unified demand for their safe and dignified return to their homeland in Rakhine, Myanmar.
The peaceful demonstration, held at the west ward’s football field from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, was attended by fathers, students, teachers, and religious leaders. The gathering highlighted the community’s unwavering desire to return to their ancestral land.
Speaking at the protest, Maung Hla Shwe, a Rohingya student, said, “We are here to show the world our unity and our unwavering call for justice. We want to return to our homeland, to Rakhine, where we rightfully belong.”
The camp authorities expressed their commitment to facilitating the repatriation process and urged the international community to ensure the Rohingyas’ safe return.
Since 2017, more than one million Rohingyas have been taking refuge in Bangladesh following the Myanmar military’s genocidal campaign. Political analysts stress the urgent need for global action, warning that continued delays in repatriation threaten the future of an entire generation.
“The prolonged delay in repatriation not only jeopardizes the displaced population’s future but also undermines efforts toward justice and reconciliation. The world must act decisively,” noted a political observer.
This protest serves as a powerful reminder of the Rohingya people’s resilience and determination to secure justice, safety, and their rightful place in their homeland. The international community must now decide whether to heed their call for action.
