On August 5, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) attacked a boat carrying Rohingya refugees attempting to flee to Bangladesh via the Naf River, resulting in the deaths of 18 people and serious injuries to 2 others. The incident occurred near Fezi village in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State of Myanmar.
The boat, which was transporting 20 Rohingyas—including children, women, and the elderly—was targeted by AA drones while en route to Bangladesh. The attack left 18 passengers dead and 2 seriously wounded.
According to sources, Rohingya residents of Maungdaw are desperately trying to escape to Bangladesh to seek safety and protection from daily violence perpetrated by the AA in Maungdaw Township.
The victims of the drone attack were all residents of Myo Ma Ka Yin Taung Rohingya village in Maungdaw Township. They were attempting to reach Bangladesh via the beach near Fezi village when the AA drone strike sunk their boat, resulting in the tragic loss of 18 lives, with only 2 survivors sustaining heavy injuries.
