Rohingya inhabitants of downtown Maungdaw have been fleeing their villages due to heavy combat occurring in the area on July 10, 2024.
Residents of Shwe Zar village, Payzi village, Ali village, and downtown Maungdaw have sought refuge in other villages around Maungdaw on this date.
A resident of downtown Maungdaw reported that the AA (Arakan Army) has been continuously attacking with large weapons and drones, targeting Rohingya residential areas and causing many deaths and injuries.
βMost residents of downtown Maungdaw and its neighboring villages have evacuated to other villages. Many were injured, and several died during their evacuation as the AA attacked them with large weapons and drones,β a resident said.
He recounted a tragic incident where a 7-year-old girl died while her parents were fleeing through a river.
βThere is a river in Hayanghali village, and when people were crossing it by ferryboats, a 7-year-old Rohingya girl drowned and her body has not been found. The ferryboat sank because it was attacked by AA drones without any reason.β
The situation in downtown Maungdaw is worsening, with residents facing severe persecution and numerous challenges. They are especially struggling with starvation and lack of medical support.
