On the night of September 23, a boat carrying approximately twenty Rohingya refugees capsized on the Naf River as they attempted to flee from Maungdaw to Bangladesh. Out of the group, only seven individuals have survived, while the bodies of the others have yet to be recovered, according to family members.
The group, totaling eighteen people, left Maungdaw Township around 11 PM on September 23. Since the incident, no further updates regarding the missing individuals have been received, leaving surviving family members deeply concerned.
“Most of those fleeing to Bangladesh are escaping the dire conditions in temporary shelters in the northern villages of Maungdaw Township,” a source said. The refugees are reportedly driven by inadequate food, shelter, healthcare, and security in these camps.
One family member shared, “They left Maungdaw seeking safety and better living conditions. Sadly, the boat capsized before they reached Bangladesh. Only seven out of the eighteen have survived, and we have no news about those missing.”
Rohingya Vision News continues to gather detailed information on the situation. While the exact number of deaths and survivors cannot be independently verified, family members confirm that seven survivors have been accounted for, with the rest still missing.
