In a recent high-level telephone conversation, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed a range of bilateral issues, with a particular focus on the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis.

During the call, Professor Yunus acknowledged the United States as the leading donor to the Rohingya humanitarian response since the crisis began in 2017. He noted that Bangladesh continues to work toward a viable and peaceful solution for the Rohingya people.

“The prospect for a viable solution and repatriation of Rohingyas back to Myanmar is now better than ever before, and Bangladesh is working on that,” said Chief Adviser Yunus.

Secretary Rubio reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s efforts and emphasized the need for a peaceful, dignified, and voluntary repatriation process, coordinated with international partners.

The exchange between the two senior officials comes amid renewed international focus on durable solutions for the nearly one million Rohingya refugees living in camps across southeastern Bangladesh. It also reflects continued U.S. engagement in regional humanitarian and human rights issues.
