Cox’s Bazar – Torrential monsoon rains over the past 48 hours have unleashed widespread flooding and landslides across multiple Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, displacing hundreds of families and exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation.

According to reports from Rohingya Khobor, over 700 families have been forced to flee their makeshift shelters as floodwaters inundated low-lying areas. The fragile bamboo and tarpaulin structures, already weakened by years of exposure, have collapsed under the relentless downpour, leaving many without shelter.

The flooding has also triggered numerous landslides, posing additional risks to camp residents. Emergency response teams are working tirelessly to relocate affected families to safer areas within the camps, but resources are stretched thin.

Humanitarian agencies are raising alarms about the urgent need for aid, including clean water, food, and medical supplies, to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases. The situation is further compounded by recent funding cuts to aid programs, which have already led to reductions in food rations and other essential services.

As the monsoon season continues, the Rohingya community faces heightened vulnerability. Aid organizations are calling on the international community to provide immediate assistance to address the unfolding crisis and to support long-term solutions for the Rohingya refugees.
