Mrauk-U β A Rohingya teenager was killed and four others injured in an explosion believed to be landmine planted by either the Arakan Army or Burma Tatmadaw in a rural area of Mrauk-U township of Arakan.
The incident took place near the Palaung Taw hamlet, Paung Htoke village tract of Mrauk-U yesterday at around 8:00 a.m.
Maung Bu Shay, son of Mohammad Sadek was killed on the spot, and his four friends injured were Mohammad Shanik; Motolab, son of Mohammad Sufiyan; Abdul Shukur, son of Mohammad Hamid and Ajmal, son of Muhammadul Haque. The ages of the victims range from eleven to sixteen.
This is not the first incident of its kind as there have been frequent landmine explosions in the northern townships of Arakan since the armed conflicts between local rebels and government security forces have started.
There are mutual accusations and denial to have the responsibility of the landmines planted in public areas that effect neither of the fighting groups but hunt the lives of the innocent Rohingya civilians.
