Cox’s Bazar, September 28, 2025 Australia has renewed its commitment to inclusive development and stronger accountability in Cox’s Bazar, pledging continued support for institutions that oversee humanitarian and development operations in the district.

Deputy Prime Minister of Australia for Bangladesh, Clinton Pobke, attended the Institutional Strengthening for Accountability and Transparency (ISPAT) event in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday. The meeting brought together senior government officials, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) representatives, and NGO leaders to discuss reforms in humanitarian response and governance.

“Transparency and accountability are cornerstones of effective humanitarian action,” said Mr. Pobke. “Australia is proud to support initiatives that strengthen governance systems, ensuring that both Rohingya refugees and host communities can benefit from inclusive development.”

The event, organized by the NGO Bureau in partnership with UNDP, underscored the Bureau’s role in coordinating and regulating NGOs to ensure better service delivery.

“The NGO Bureau must remain a trusted partner in building resilient systems,” said a senior UNDP representative. “By enhancing institutional capacity, Cox’s Bazar can move toward sustainable solutions that serve everyone fairly.”

Participants emphasized that effective collaboration between government, development partners, and humanitarian actors is essential in Cox’s Bazar, where nearly one million Rohingya refugees live alongside vulnerable host populations.

“Strengthening accountability is not only about oversight, it is about building trust,” said an NGO leader at the discussion. “When communities see transparency in action, they feel confident that the support provided is for them.”

The ISPAT initiative aims to enhance the NGO Bureau’s institutional effectiveness, enabling it to ensure more equitable, transparent, and impactful development across Cox’s Bazar’s complex humanitarian landscape.
