Maungdaw, March 7, 2025 – The Arakan Army (AA), which has maintained full control over Maungdaw since December 8, reportedly opened fire on a group of Rohingya fishermen in the Naf River on the night of March 7, around 8:00 PM.

According to local sources, the AA’s coastal guard units targeted seven Rohingya fishermen while they were fishing along the Naf River near Nga Sa Kyu and Ludaing villages in northern Maungdaw. One fisherman was fatally shot and died in the river, while the other six managed to flee. However, their whereabouts remain unknown, and it is unclear whether they are alive or have been killed.

Reports indicate that the fishermen were residents of Nga Sa Kyu village and had obtained permission to fish in the Naf River after negotiating with the AA’s forces stationed in Ludaing village. Despite this agreement, the AA’s coastal guards opened fire, resulting in the death of one fisherman and the disappearance of the others.

A relative of the fishermen confirmed the incident, stating, β€œThey had negotiated with the AA and were allowed to fish after paying a ransom. However, despite this, the AA’s forces opened fire while they were fishing, killing one and leaving the others missing.”

The attack has sparked growing concerns over the security and safety of Rohingya civilians under AA control, particularly as reports of arbitrary violence, extortion, and human rights abuses continue to emerge from the region.

Rohingya Vision News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
