Buthidaung, March 9, 2025 β The Arakan Army (AA) has reportedly set fire to multiple Rohingya villages in Buthidaung Township, Arakan State, Myanmar, in a deliberate act of destruction. The incident took place at approximately 11:00 AM on March 9.
According to local sources, AA forces intentionally burned Bagonnah Taung Ywar, Bagonnah Sorfara, and parts of Myaung Nar villages. Along with the residential areas, paddy fields and other farmlands were also reduced to ashes.
A witness stated, βSome members of the Arakan Army arrived fully armed and set fire to different parts of the villages. They stood by and watched as the flames consumed the homes before leaving the area after ensuring complete destruction.β
The source further added that the AA appears to be systematically burning Rohingya villages to prevent forcibly displaced Rohingya from returning to their homes. βThe Arakan Army is intentionally making Buthidaung a Rohingya-free zone,β the source claimed.
This attack is part of an ongoing pattern of violence against Rohingya civilians in northern Arakan State, where the AA has taken control since December 2023. Reports of forced displacement, killings, and destruction of Rohingya properties have intensified in recent months.
